209 - Chuck Versus the Sensei
Casey Fights Sensei Ty Bennett
At the opening of the episode, we see a younger John Casey engaged in a martial arts sprring with his Sensei (Teacher). The fight takes place on the Warner Brothers back lot in Burbank in an area known as “The Jungle.” It will be used in a number of subsequent episodes of Chuck.
The picture of the Lagoon is looking out and it is dry (no water). Obviously, the buildings are CG’d.
Casey Goes to The Dojo
Casey locates the Sensei’s Dojo at 1919 Mulholland Drive, a famous scenic drive at the edge of the Santa Monica Mountains. However, the building used for the Dojo was the Fum Lum Restaurant formally located at 222 Universal Terrace in Universal City, adjacent to Universal Studios. It was build in 1982 and closed in 1998. Obviously, it was used for film this episode in 2008. It was eventually torn down in 2014.
210 - Chuck Vs the DeLorean
Young Sarah Hit by the Armored Car
At the Opening of the episode, we see a young Sarah riding her bike in Butte, Monana. As she rides through the streets, an amored car begins to pull away and there is a scream. Sarah has “supposedly” been hit by the vehicle. The scene was filmed on Midwest St of the Warner Brothers back lot. You can see the tower in the background of both shots.
Sarah's Apartment Building
This is the first time we see the outside of Sarah’s apartment Building. It is supposed to be in downtown LA based on the skyline behind it. However, it is actually located at 322 N. Pass Ave, Burbank CA. It is the Hotel Amarano. The view of the building in the show has been heavily CG’d.
Nakamichi Plaza
Jack Burton, Sarah’s dad takes Sarah and Chuck out to dinner at his hotel to show them his latest con: selling the Nkamichi Plaza Building to a middle eastern sheik from Dubai, Sheik Rajiv Amad. The building shown in the episode is not the building that was used. The actual building is located at 15303 Ventura Bl, at the corner of Ventura Bl and Sepulveda. In fact the building faces Sepulveda Bl and is next to the Sherman Oaks Galleria.
Casey Goes to Jack's Hotel
Beckman asks Casey to find jack Burton at a downtown LA hotel underthe name, Guido Merkens. He drives up to the hotel, which is located on the Warner Brothers lot on a street build for the musical, Annie. Everything after the Hotel/No Vacancy sign is CG’d.
Sarah Meets Sheik Amad to Rescue Jack
Sheik Amad wants his money back because he knows he’s been conned. So he phones Sarah to tell her to bring his money or he will kill Jack. The meet is on the roof of a parking garage. It is the parking structure on the Warner Brothers lot located at Gate 7 adjacent to the Los Angeles River. See the picture for the places noted where Sarah is standing and where Chuck drives the De Lorean.
211 - Chuck Vs Santa Claus
Police at the Buy More
This episode is what is called a “bottle episode.” In this case, it was all contained on the sets at Warner Brothers Studio. The exception is the on-location filming at Fallbrook Fashion Center, home of the Buy More and, in this season, the Orange Orange facades. After Ned crashes into the Buy More, the police and other agencies congregate in the parking lot of the Buy More. However, rather than being on the south side of the Buy More, they are located mainly on the east side of the Buy More. The location is now a Sprouts Farmers Market and the building was added on to it The orange awnings was a forma Ulta Cometics store..
Also, the TV reporter is in a position to see the Orange Orange in the building to the southeast of the Buy More. Not clear is the awnings are actual or have been CG’d.
212 - Chuck Vs. The Third Dimension
Chuck and Tyler at the Nightclub
Chuck goes with Tyler to the Nightclub. It appears the nightclub set on the WB blacklotis the same as the restarant set used in the Chuck Vs. The First Date (201).
Chuck and The Elevators
Tyler and Chuck at the the nightclub, apparently in a hotel and the girls they met want to “party” with them upstairs. The intial go up in a “birdcage” type elevator, which later Chuck is hanging onto the outside for dear life. The hotel is the Westin Bonaventure, 404 S. Figueroa St in downtown LA. It is a very well known landmark on the DTLA skyline.
Tyler's Concert
Chuck convinces Tyler to perform at his concert. The concert is held at The Mayan, a venue located in downtown LA at 1038 S. Hill St. The Mayan is an historic landmark built in 1927.
213 - Chuck Vs. The Suburbs
Chuck and Sarah's Suburb House
Chuck and Sarah have a mission in the Suburbs. So they are posing as a married couple. The neighborhood is located at 25611 Walker Pl. in the Stevenson Ranch area north of Los Angeles, approximately 24 miles from Burbank.
Chuck at Sylvia's House
Chuck goes over to Sylvia’s house and eventually escapres and ends up on the roof. This house is actually accross the street from Chuck and Sarah’s suburb house.
214 - Chuck Vs. the Best Friend
Chuck and Sarah Attend Jason's Party
At Anna and Jason’s invitiation, Chuck and Sarah attend Jason’s Party at his high-end auto dealership. It was held at Audi of Downtown LA, 1900 S. Figueroa St.
Chuck Chases the Chinese Ambassador's Car
After the gang puts the bomb in the Ambassador’s car, Chuck gets in the Nerdherder to give chase. They start at the car dealership and it goes from there. They are on the side of the Audi dealership at the corner of S. Figueroa St and Washington Bl.
Chuck tries to warn the Ambassador about the bomb, but they believe it’s a trap, so they take off with Chuck following them and Casey hanging on the roof of the car. They exit the car dealership and head down an alleyway labeled S. Lebanon St. Chuck continues along S. Lebanon St, passing the back of the Bob Hope Patriotic Hall.
One of the amusing aspects is when they enact a car chase, like in the Pilot; they often use a small area repeatedly since cities usually limit how much they can disrupt traffic.
Here, you can see the Nerdherder with Casey on top driving past the same area they just left.
The chase ensues under the Interstate 10 (Santa Monica Freeway) at Grand and 18th Avenues. On the other side of the freeway, you can see the arches marking the entrances to a very large Korean church.
After the chase beneath the freeway, the limo returns to S. Lebanon St in the same direction it came from.
While the Chase is ensuing, Sarah is fighting with Smooth Lau. After she wins the fight. she hops into a Shelby Corba replica to find Chuck and Casey. She arrives from the opposite direction of the Audi dealership. You can see the blue striped building in the background.
When she approahes the bodyguards and Casey, she is standing in front of service area of Toyota of Downtown LA at 1901 S. Figueroa St.
After freeing Casey, Sarah turns around to see Chuck driving away in the Nerdherder with the bomb. The car crosses the street, a light rail car goes by and then the car blows up. Sarah is shocked amd horrified, but then Chuck walks up with the car remote.
First, where Sarah is watching from is a completely different place than where the Nerdherder is headed. It appears CGI was used to contruct this scene. You see the Young Apartment Building in the background. It is located at Grand and Hope Streets, next to the I-10 freeway, about 1/4 from where the Herdherder crosses the road.
As you can see the explosion is no where near that alleyway. It actually looks the warehouse near the docks where Helicopter was filmed.
And Chuck walks up right where Casey and Sarah are standing
215 - Chuck Vs. the Beefcake
Cole Digs Up the Body of Brad White
Asthe scene opens, we see a man digging in a wooded area. He is digging up a body in a CIA dump site. The location is the “jungle” area of the Warner Brothers lot.
Cole Making the Exchange for the Playback Device
Cole, Sarah and Casey travel to a rendevous point to procure the playback device for the chip Cole dug up in Brad White’s belt buckle. There are actually two areas filmed for this scene. The first is a shot of the building located at 3400 Riverside Dr. It is the headquarters of the Warner Brothers Studio Tour ( which we highly recommend). It is directly across the street from the Warner Brothers Studios. Cole meets the Fulcrum agents outside the building on the Warner Bl side.
There is a pop-up outdoor cafe to the left of where Cole, Sarah and Casey are standing. It is not usually there. The Fulcrum agents arrive next to it.
Cole Gets Ambushed and Captured
Cole leaves castle on his way to the airport. His car is ambushed, the driver shot, and he is captured. He is traveling on Forest Lawn Dr., adjacent to Mt. Sinai Memorial Park.
